Products address thermal, acoustical, and EMI issues at or near the source.  The agile thermal product portfolio ranges from classic heat shields in powertrain and underbody applications for ICE’s to extending into x. EV battery thermal and EMI management.  To optimize performance and comfort, acoustic products can be designed for a multitude of interior and exterior applications.

Application Areas

  • Heat shields that are directly mounted to the exhaust line are becoming more common due to decreasing space in the engine compartment the need to maintain high and homogenous exhaust gas temperatures for improved emissions.

    The combination of high heat, which reduces the mechanical strength of all metal elements used in heat shields, with the high vibration levels demand a careful design process supported with numerical simulations and multi-phase testing.

    Maintaining a broad database of materials’ thermal, mechanical and environmental properties, allows Lydech’s Product Engineers to select the most appropriate material for the application.

  • Heat shields for powertrain components need to be robust to ensure proper, long-term thermal protection.  Powertrain shields have the unique duty of shielding the car’s powerplant in high air temperature environments at high vibrations levels.   • Underbody heat shields cover a large surface of the vehicle from the dash to the tailpipe and are often deep drawn to fill the gaps and bend around corners in the vehicle’s body architecture. Metal forming and process expertise are paramount to achieving proper coverage while minimizing part count. Underbody shields are commonly stressed by environmental inputs due to their close proximity with the road and are often required to be reinforced through the use of stronger materials and a more well-balanced attachment strategy. Acoustic performance is commonly added to shield in this application to reduce noise entering the passenger compartment.
